Make or Break a Team: YOU Decide - by Yandaro Al-Amien

My long-standing stint as a team events and adventures facilitator has strengthened the old-age predicament that a team cannot function without its people. The great Guru of Confidence and Asia's No. 1 Motivator, Ernie Chen has never failed to remind me of the people who helped form the success stories we hear about today. "No man is ever an island," he said. His statement cannot be further from the truth.

Just like building a good home or running a substantial business, a successful team requires a solid foundation. Every single member of that particular team IS the foundation that shapes the values, culture, spirit and inevitably the passion within the team. The members are the ones who merge diverse backgrounds and ideologies to achieve a team identity that is uniquely distinguished from any other.

However, what happens when massive conflicts, clashes and disagreements take place within a team? Does a team break down and collapse from this negative experience? Do the individuals involved even bother to "communicate" their sides of the story to one another at all?

Let me stress my point once more for greater clarity - A TEAM CANNOT FUNCTION WITHOUT ITS PEOPLE. This is exactly why every single individual involved must pose the effort to glue together the particles that make up the team in the very beginning. Great teamwork stems from great cooperation. However, OUTSTANDING teamwork travels way back to the roles, responsibilities and contributions played out by the respective members. In simpler terms, MAKE THE EFFORT.

I agree with Yandaro. In whatever you do, no matter big or small, doing it as a team with the right team players will make things a lot easier.
Of course there will be disagreements and conflicts some time or another; its just part of the game. If you believe in what you are doing and have confidence in the team you are with, you can always make things happen.

Most people do decide to break the teams. This is why organizations do not reach ultimate performance. People tend to be selfish and self centered. I sometimes wonder what is happenning to our community? What happenned to the togethernes that is so much needed in times of need.

Of course, no man is an island!
However, the effort of taking the initiave and pro-active to always helping the team must come from EVERY individual in the team. If the team member just purely doing what he/she needs to do daily basis, the team will not grow!!!

When i was in Uni, i always think that it's better that i'll do it myself as by delegating the task to someone that not responsible enough will definately screw things up..NOW, having team member that support and have the same values as same objective make you achive something that more that what you expected..So, find ways to work together as a TEAM before you even think of breaking a TEAM.

Let's share this statement (from Henry Ford) to everyone. Why working as a Team is so important:

Coming together is a beginning.
Keeping together is progress.
Working together is success.
